The completion of the new road and lorry parking area between gates 7 and 9 in the administration of the Port of Constanta marks an important milestone. At the end of February 2024, the acceptance of the investment project entitled “Road and car park within the river-sea quay of the Port of Constanta” was completed. This was made possible thanks to European funding allocated under the Major Infrastructure Operational Programme, namely the Solidarity Lanes Initiative.
The financing agreement, worth almost 3,000,000 euros, was formalised on 4 May 2023 in Constanta. The signing ceremony was attended by prominent personalities, including the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Sorin Mihai Grindeana.
As part of this initiative, a 2,237 linear metres road with two lanes was constructed. In addition, a spacious parking area of 14,000 square metres was constructed, capable of accommodating about 80 trucks at a time.
The strategic location of the new road connecting Gate 7 to Gate 9 is of paramount importance in optimising the traffic associated with grain transport. This not only improves operational efficiency, but also opens up opportunities to stimulate growth in the port’s river-sea sector.
